Area police have made a lot of burglary and theft-related arrests recently, and one was made thanks to some quick thinking from an eye witness.

Michael Andrew Runyon, 26, of Whitman, was arrested by West Virginia State Police troopers C.W. Seacrist and G. W. Collins for nighttime burglary on May 9.

According to law enforcement reports, the officers responded to a burglary-in-progress call. Upon arrival, the witness told officers he saw a man come through the window of the victim's home.

Upon knocking on the victim's door, Runyon exited the rear, the report states. The witness said Runyon's vehicle was sitting out front and running. The witness shut the car off and reportedly tossed the keys into the weeds, the report states.

Officers searched the vehicle and found Runyon's cell phone and other documents with his name on them. The witnesses’ description of the burglar matched Runyon's description. A warrant was issued for his arrest and Runyon was taken into custody and booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden at 8:25 p.m.
