Logan High School had graduation ceremonies Friday, May 25, at 7 p.m. at the Willie Akers Arena.
Among the 169 students graduating included five valedictorians: Samantha Jo Blair, James Lewis Ferrell II, Darby Danielle Mullen, Krystal Renea Nelson and Kelsey Ann Pierce; three salutatorians: Bethany Michelle Brewer, Jessica Rae Elliott and Meredith Lynn White, and one honorarian, Jordan Michael Rockhold.
Valedictorians
Samantha Jo Blair is the daughter of Jackie and Penny Blair of Logan. Her activities include the Prayer Club, tennis, TAAD, National Honor Society and Math Field Day. Her favorite subject is calculus. Blair plans to attend West Virginia University to be a biometric engineer.
James Lewis Ferrell III is the son of James L. III and Catherine E. Ferrell of Logan. His activities include the National Honor Society, school musicals participant, tennis team in his freshman and junior years, Math Field Day all four years and two years of band. His favorite subjects are chemistry and healthcare fundamentals. Ferrell plans to attend Marshall University to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and become a flight nurse with an aeromedical service.
Darby Danielle Mullen is the daughter of Dr. William and Shari Mullen of Pecks Mill. Her activities include All State Cross Country, All State in Track and Field, All State in volleyball, basketball, softball, president of the Prayer Club, vice president of FCA, TAAD, National Honor Society, Student Council, Key Club, French Club, Wendy’s State Heisman winner, WVSSAC State Farm Academic Athlete of the Year, 2007 LHS Homecoming Queen and a member of the advisory panel on studies and concern for the college board. Her favorite subject is biology. Mullen plans to attend Marshall University where she will be a scholarship athlete on MU’s cross country and track and field teams.
Krystal Renea Nelson is the daughter of Carl David and Brenda Lee Nelson of Peach Creek. Her activities include the National Honor Society. Her favorite subject is calculus. Nelson plans to enroll in the nursing program at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College.
Kelsey Ann Pierce is the daughter of James B. Jr. and Calisa A. Pierce of Logan. Her school activities include W.Va. Governor’s Schools, Girl’s State, Math Field Day, Raze, Key Club, Prayer Club, Student Council, All County Choir, All State Chorus, Spanish Club, French Club, Vocal Ensemble, yearbook, National Honor Society, Phi Theta Kapa International Honor Society, Who’s Who Among American High School Students, National Honor Roll, National Dean’s List and AP Rising Scholar. Her favorite subjects include biology, healthcare fundamentals, English, Spanish and French. Pierce plans to attend West Virginia University to major in vocal performance and music education. She would then like to attend graduate school to attain a master’s degree in performance and travel to Europe to pursue a career in opera and then return to the U.S. to teach at the college level.
Salutatorians
Bethany Michelle Brewer is the daughter of George L. and Joy Brewer of Logan. Her activities include the National Honor Society, Float Committee, TAAD, Spanish Club, Drama Club, School Math Field Day team and Regional Math Field Day team. Her favorite subjects are calculus, biology and driver’s education. Brewer plans to attend Concord University and major in pre-professional biology.
Jessica Rae Elliott is the daughter of Cherye Elliott of Pecks Mill and the late Greg Elliott. Her activities include Pep Club president, Prayer Club, TAAD and Student Council. Her favorite subject is Health Fundamentals. Elliott plans to attend Marshall University to major in the biology field.
Meredith Lynn White is the daughter of Michael and Mary White of Stollings. Her activities include the tennis team, TAAD, yearbook, Prayer Club, Prom committee and National Honor Society. Her favorite subjects are English and the yearbook. White plans to attend Marshall University to pursue a degree in communications disorders then continue her education to become a speech pathologist.
Honorarian
Jordan Michael Rockhold is the son of Howard and Dorothy Rockhold of Logan. His activities include school musicals, Relay for Life volunteer, Key Club, National Honor Society and TAAD. His favorite subjects are chemistry, biology, English and choir. Rockhold plans to attend Charleston University to pursue a career in pharmacy.
