Was a firearm used in a bizarre incident on Tuesday involved in an earlier reported suicide? That's what local police are attempting to determine.

A local man was arrested on felony firearms charges this week after the strange incident where two local women were held against their will in an apartment on Stratton Street.

Patrolman Mark Dickerson of the Logan Police Department arrested David Michael Cyrus, 28, of Holden, for being a felon in possession of a firearm on June 12.

According to law enforcement reports, during the initial investigation of a self inflicted gunshot wound on June 11, Dickerson received information from several reliable sources that two firearms, a Titan Tiger .38 caliber revolver and a 9mm Hi Point semi-automatic pistol were previously possessed by David Cyrus.

Cyrus was interviewed on June 12 about the shooting and another incident involving his brother Shane Cyrus.

"After being advised of his Miranda rights, David admitted to having in his possession on June 8, 2007 the Hi Point 9mm semi-auto.... David is a convicted felon of the following offenses; 1. Delivery of a Controlled Substance (cocaine base), 11/19/01; 2. Distribution of Cocaine Base, 4/22/03; 3. Possession of a Deadly Weapon (firearm) by a Convicted Felon, 8/13/06. David also admitted to being an habitual user of cocaine, prescription medications and alcohol," the report states.

Cyrus was booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden at 5:40 p.m. Police had been looking for the Cyrus brothers following a report about a man brandishing a firearm on Stratton Street on June 12.

The patrolmen spoke with the victims who told them that Shane Ray Cyrus and his brother David Cyrus "were inside the victim's apartment 'getting high,' when an argument ensued."

Shane allegedly struck one victim in the face with an open back hand slap across the right side of her and reportedly said he would kill her and her friend. The other victim told police she "was choked by Shane (strangled) and he then stated again he would kill them.

According to the victim's statements Shane brandished a semi-auto pistol at them. The victims said they attempted to leave the residence and the brothers allegedly refused to let them leave. After approximately 45 minutes to one hour, the victims were able to escape through the front door.

Upon exiting onto the street with both suspects chasing them, Shane allegedly struck both victims when he was confronted by the victim who attempted to stop them. The victim said, "Shane reached into his back waistband area and began backing up" and that even though he did not draw the weapon she feared he would.

The victims gave the names and descriptions of the Cyrus brothers to the officers who saw a man matching the description of Shane Cyrus walking on Stratton Street towards the Charles Street- Pine street area.

Dickerson gave chase and Shane Cyrus was located inside an apartment where his brother frequented. He was detained until Deputy Derrick Pearson and Tpr. Simmons arrived to search for the weapon, which was not located at the apartment.

Both victims gave a positive ID and several witnesses also gave a positive ID. Shane was placed under arrest and transported to the Logan Police Department for processing, then to the Logan County Courthouse for arraignment. Shane Cyrus was booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden at 10:15 a.m.
