A local man was arrested this week on kiddie porn charges.

Kelly Gerald Crosby, 25, of Logan, was arrested by the West Virginia State Police on charges of use of minors in filming sexually explicit conduct and distributing and exhibiting material depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct on June 26. According to law enforcement reports, a member of the U.S. 119 Drug and Violent Crime Task Force searched an internet account of Crosby's and allegedly found six child pornography photographs.

"The accused was advised of his rights and (he) gave a statement that he requested that the photos be taken and e-mailed to him," the report states. "He had prior knowledge that the victim was a minor."

Crosby reportedly told the trooper he showed the photos to his girlfriend.

Logan Prosecutor Brian Abraham told The Logan Banner the arrest was made by a new project started specifically to target internet child predators known as ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children) which is a new division of the West Virginia State Police.

"He was making contact with a 13-year-old girl asking her for nude photos and making sex requests," Abraham said. "It was found in his internet account and on his e-mail. They determined that some of the access he had to the internet was from a public library in Logan County."

Crosby was booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden at 7 p.m. on $300,000 bond.

In other arrest reports, another local man was arrested for animal cruelty.

Gerald Wells, 39, of Lyburn, was arrested in Logan County by the West Virginia State Police for felony cruelty to animals and shooting near a dwelling on June 26.

According to law enforcement reports, on June 8, West Virginia State Police Trooper J.E. Williams received a complaint from the victim alleging that Wells took a handgun and shot her dog, (which was not on his property) within 500 feet of a home and in front of two children. The officer contacted a witness who collaborated the same events, noting that one of the juveniles who saw the incident was her child.

The victim told the trooper the dog was on her property and probably would not be able to survive the injury.

A warrant was issued for Wells' arrest and he was taken into custody and booked at the regional jail at 10:10 p.m.
