Linda Schumacher from Avoca, New York, and Nanette Widger and Kayla Widger from Art Port New York were in Logan Wednesday taking in the town and preparing for a few days worth of outdoor adventure. When asked why they came to southern West Virginia the ladies were in agreement.
"The Hatfield-McCoy trails," they said in unison.
"And warm weather," added Schumacher.
They and family members stayed for two days at the Devil Ance Campground before heading to the Gilbert area to stay for a few more days of riding.
ATV riding is a big thing in New York, Nanette Widger said, adding, "but we don't have any trails like this."
"We have to make our own," Schumacher explained.
Schumacher said everybody they had met tended to be very friendly and laid back, since they got into town late Monday afternoon. They planned on riding the Dingess Rum trail first then tackling the Browning Fork Trail. The riders said they had friends who had been to the area and they had read about the Hatfield-McCoy Trails in ATV magazines and seen the trails on television.
"It's great to be here," the ladies said.
