It's time to get healthy, Logan County!
That's the message from local Family Recourse Network director Shannon Meade who has been getting the message out about an upcoming event that will focus on fitness.
The 1st Annual Logan County on the Move Walk & Resource Fair will be coming up on Friday, August 17, 2007 at the Logan High School Football Field & Track.
Meade told The Logan Banner that the event will be great opportunity to get started on a healthier lifestyle and for area businesses and agencies to showcase and promote healthy lifestyles here in Logan The event will be sponsored by the Logan County FRN, Logan County WVU Extension Services, PRIDE in Logan County and the UMWA Health & Retirement Fund.
Meade said the Logan County on the Move Walk & Resource Fair is the first event of its kind and the agencies sponsoring it want the public to come out to walk and learn more about health and fitness and the various community resources we have in Logan
Many people want to be more active but getting motivated can be a challenge.
"We hope to help our citizens kick off a healthy habit of physical activity," she said. "We are asking businesses and organizations to set up booths so that walkers can see what services you offer and to serve as water stations for those in need of a resting and cooling place."
Those who come can get a free "WV on the Move" Pedometer while supplies last.
The device can help walkers find out how many steps they walk each day for 6 weeks and to see when they are increasing their steps- which shows an improvement in overall fitness.
At the end of six weeks participants can mail their step log to WV on the Move to receive a free t-shirt. The device allows you to count steps as you do daily chores such as gardening, watching children or working.
Meade said those interested in becoming a part of the event can contact her at 304-752-9536.
