Kentucky names roster for H-M Senior Bowl

Kentucky has announced its 29-man roster for the Hatfield-McCoy Senior Bowl, which is set for Saturday night at Matewan.

Heading the list are eight players from state powerhouse Belfry, including: tight end Chad Steele (6-2, 215); running back Corey Chapman (5-10, 170); wide receiver Chaz Baker (6-2, 160); defensive back Gerald Epling (5-8, 155); free safety Devin Kohari (6-0, 170); center Aaron Warren (6-3, 260); offensive lineman Derek McCoy (6-0, 217); and quarterback Nick Bowe (6-0, 195).

Seven players have signed up from 4A Johnson Central, another playoff team from a year ago. Those are: running back Tommy Taylor (6-1, 185); linebacker Michael Tackett (5-11, 205); running back Cody Ratliff (5-10, 185); linebacker Blake Johnson (6-1, 230); wideout Chris Meeks (5-8, 165); defensive lineman Shawn Ousley (6-1, 275); and defensive lineman Coty Conley (6-2, 230).

Four players are coming from Phelps n quarterback Robert Gannon (5-10, 150), wide receiver Colby Paige (5-10, 170); running back Russell Johnson (5-9, 180); and linebacker Justin Dove (6-0, 185).

Sheldon Clark, located in Inez, Ky., has two players coming to the bowl game in wide receiver Daniel Harless (5-10, 175); and defensive lineman Danny Hinkle (6-2, 270).

Letcher County High School also has two in DB Jonathan Tucker (5-11, 175) and LB Hank Simpson (6-1, 215).

East Ridge, a Pike County school located at Lick Creek, Ky., also has two representatives in DB David Ratliff (5-11, 195) and WR Corey Mullins (6-0, 180).

Coming from Pikeville are Brad Bryant, a 5-9, 225-pound lineman and Mitch Jackson, a 6-5, 190-pound wideout.

Cory Carter of Pike Central (6-1, 240 DE) and Prestonsburg’s Seth Moore, a punter/kicker, round out the roster.

No players are being sent from Shelby Valley, South Floyd, Allen Central, Betsy Layne, Paintsville or Lawrence County high schools.

Kentucky’s head coach is Butch Joplin. He’s being assisted by Derrick Silas, Scott Branton, Jessie Peck, Brad Allen, Justin Arms and Darnell Lythe. The trainer is Mike Stargill.
