Last weekend, the quartet was involved with another Chapmanville area team which won a crown.
The 16-and-under Chapmanville Chill travel softball team.
The Chill captured the championship of the Best of Buffalo Tournament, ending a string of three straight runner-up finishes.
The team has had a very successful summer, playing in five tournaments and taking first or second place in each one.
After winning their opening tournament n Chapmanville’s own Father’s Day Invitational n the Chill recorded three straight runner-up finishes at the Jeff Wymer Tournament at Buffalo, the Rumble on the River Tournament in Portsmouth, Ohio, and the Summer Bash tourney at Parkersburg.
The Chill traveled to Buffalo last weekend with a chip on their shoulder, determined to come out on top.
Last Saturday in pool play, Chapmanville played three straight games. The Chill played the Ohio Force to a 1-1 time-limit draw, before falling 3-0 to a tough Ohio Valley Thundersticks team from Louisville, Ky. Chapmanville then defeated the Tri-State Whirl 11-0 to advance to the single-elimination tourney.
The Chill then opened tournament play on Sunday with an 8-0 victory over the West Virginia Mohawks.
This set up a rematch with the Thundersticks in the semifinals.
This time, Chapmanville came out on top, 4-3, putting the Chill in the championship game with a rematch against the Mohawks.
This would be the third tournament finals matchup of the summer for the two teams with both teams winning one.
This would be the rubber match.
This time Chapmanville won by taking a 4-2 victory after falling behind 2-0 early.
Other Chill team members include Lauren Shumate, who saw time in the state tourney as a pinch-runner. Rounding out the roster are: Haley Hendricks, Hanna Vinson, Danielle Brewster, Ciera Bias, Brittany May and Emily Meeks.
Chapmanville is managed by Angie Brewster and coached by Tommy Kirk and Wes Bias.
