Stream widening project

For far too long, our streams throughout Logan County have been crowded.

As high waters wash through the area, dirt and debris not only filled the creek beds, but also has piled up along the banks of our streams and it has caused flooding.

Sometimes, that flooding has been severe.

But, the Logan County Commission’s work to widen streams in Logan County has opened the flow of water and should allow heavy downpours to flow better. Widening the creeks should also prevent severe flooding.

Remember, though, that nothing will ever prevent all flooding. If the area is awash with an unexpected cloudburst, the creek banks may not hold all their water. But, this is a good way to lessen the damage.

We applaud the Logan County Commission for working with the state to bring in crews to widen areas such as Micco and Cherry Tree, places usually hit hard by flooding due to the bottlenecks in Island Creek. Now that those areas of the streams are widened, we believe flooding won’t be nearly as bad as it has been in years past.
