David Lee Bumgarner, 43, of Pecks Mill, was jailed again at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden on bail piece charges after a relative went off of his bond.
The Logan Banner received a report that Bumgarner was back out of jail last week, but his latest bit of freedom apparently did not last very long.
He was jailed again on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 3:45 p.m.
Bumgarner had extra charges filed against him after he allegedly had drugs smuggled into the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden for him by his wife last March.
"He was out on bail, and apparently whoever had gone his bond had asked to be taken off it," Lt. Dennis Brown of the Logan County Sheriff's Department said.
Bumgarner had been in jail, facing charges when his attorney was able to get bond set for him to await his next court proceeding.
Reportedly, Bumgarner’s mother-in-law contacted Logan Magistrate Court and requested to go off his bond so she could meet the bond for her daughter.
"Candy Bumgarner passed some crushed-up pills in a cellophane wrapper to David Bumgarner and she did it by passing it to him in her mouth," Prosecutor Brian Abraham explained of the March incident. She was charged with felony transferring of drugs to an inmate and conspiracy to deliver drugs.
At that time, David Bumgarner was already serving time on charges for breaking into a car and faced the new charges over the smuggling incident which happened on March 3, when Candy Bumgarner, 41, of Pecks Mill was making a visit to David Lee Bumgarner in jail.
"The accused advised this officer that she exchanged a bag of crushed loratab in a kiss with the accused," the police report by West Virginia State Police Trooper J.R. Brewer stated. "Corrections officer I.I. Adkins discovered the bag in David Bumgarner's mouth after leaving the visitation room to a strip search room. Candace Bumgarner advised this officer she did swap the drugs through a kiss.”
Local police officers say David Bumgarner is a pathological repeat offender who has been in and out of trouble with the law for a very long time.
