After five weeks in the high school football season the Logan and Chapmanville football teams are in position to make the playoffs.

Following last week’s 13-12 win over Logan, Chapmanville jumped from 18th to 15th in this week’s WVSSAC Class AA Computer Ratings. Logan dropped from fifth all the way down to 12th.

The Wildcats (3-1) have a 6.75 rating, ahead of 10th-place Scott (3-2), this Friday night’s opponent. The Skyhawks are tied for 10th with Magnolia (3-2) with a 6.80 rating.

Grafton (3-2) is tied for 13th with Sissonville (3-2) with 6.40 points. Sissonville, which beat Chapmanville 27-21 in the season opener, is a Cardinal Conference team along with the Tigers and Wildcats.

In 16th place is Independence (3-2) with a 5.80 rating.

Berkeley Springs (5-0) is first with a 11.20 rating. Bluefield (4-0) is second, Wayne (5-0) third, James Monroe (5-0) fourth and Keyser (3-1) fifth. Clay County (4-1) is sixth, Tolsia (4-1) seventh, Wyoming East (4-1) eighth and Liberty-Raleigh (4-1) ninth.

Wayne, another Cardinal Conference team, is the defending Class AA state champions.

The top 16 teams from each class qualify for the playoffs, which begin Nov. 9 across the state. The top eight teams get first-round home games.

Although it is extremely early, if the season ended today, Logan would travel to Keyser for a first-round playoff game, while Chapmanville would go to Bluefield.

Cardinal Conference teams Poca (2-3) and Winfield (2-3) are tied for 22nd. Chapmanville plays at Winfield on Friday night.

Point Pleasant (1-3), another league foe, is 32nd. Winless Herbert Hoover (0-4) is the lowest rated league team in 37th with 0.00 points.

In Class A, Wheeling Central (4-0) is first, Greenbrier West (4-0) second, Wahama (5-0) third and Gilbert (5-0) and Williamstown (3-1) are tied for fourth. Matewan is tied with Pocahontas County in 14th place. Williamson is 20th, Man 31st, Tug Valley 33rd and Burch is tied for last in 37th place.

In Class AAA, Parkersburg holds the top spot with University second, St. Albans third, Robert C. Byrd fourth and Bridgeport fifth.

Winless Lincoln County is tied for last in 32nd place.
