MAN n The Man High School football team probably plays one of the toughest schedules n if not the toughest schedule n in the state for a Class A team.

With the Hillbillies playing six Class AA teams Man’s schedule looks that much tougher.

Man played another Double-A team on Friday night in its home finale and took it on the chin as No. 10-ranked Wyoming East handed the Billies a 26-6 loss at Man’s George A. Queen Memorial Field.

The loss dropped the young Man team to 1-8 on the season. Wyoming East, which is very much alive in the Class AA playoff picture, improved to 6-2 with the victory.

“We gave the other team breaks, but the kids didn’t quit,” Man coach Harvey Arms said. “I’m proud of them for never quitting. We’ve just got to go out and hope to end the season with a win over Ieager in two weeks.”

Man was led by senior tailback Timmy Browning, who had 105 yards on 11 carries. Running back Khris Tolliver was held to just 45 yards on 13 carries.

After a scoreless first quarter, which was marred by turnovers and mistakes, Wyoming East took the ball midway in the second quarter and marched all the way down to the Man 10-yard line. Then on a fourth-and-goal play at the 6-yard line, Man’s defense came up big as Cody Harvey intercepted a Warriors’ pass and ran the ball to the Man 35-yard line.

Three plays later Man, receiver Jeremy Hatfield caught a pass from QB Cory spence but when he was hit he fumbled the ball over to the Warriors at the Man 35 with four minutes left in the first half.

A personal foul on Man gave the Warriors a first down at the 10 with just 1:01 left in the first half.

Then two plays later, Wyoming East got on the scoreboard first on a 10-yard TD pass from Thad Grogg to Blake Cook. The PAT kick by Cory Willard failed as WEHS took a 6-0 lead with 28 seconds showing on the clock.

The third quarter was much like the first period as both teams committed penalties and the frame went scorless.

After three quarters of play Man trailed the Warriors just 6-0.

But Wyoming East built its lead to 12-0, driving 73 yards on seven plays, capped off by Grogg’s 18-yard TD pass to Blake Cook with 11:52 left in the game. The PAT failed, leaving the score at 12-0 in favor of East. The drive was fueled by another costly personal foul flag on the Billies.

Man’s offense took over on its own 42-yard yard line and drove to the Wyoming East 10 as the Warriors returned the favor with two personal fouls of their own.

WEHS was able halt the Billies’ drive and took over on downs at the 3-yard line with just over 10 minutes to play.

The Warriors then broke Man’s back as Willard sprinted 97 yards to paydirt to give Wyoming East an 18-0 lead with 9:40 to play.

Man got on the board with 7:13 to play as Spence tossed a 28-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Hatfield. The PAT run failed, leaving the score 18-6.

Wyoming East added a late score with 2:28 to go as Grogg connected with Cook for his third TD toss of the night. Grogg then found Brandon Belcher for the conversion to make it 26-6.

The Billies have an open date this week before traveling to Iaeger to close out the season Nov. 2.
