Larry Dale Fields, 36, who was living at Burnwell, Ky., near Aflex, reportedly lost control of his motorcycle about a mile from his home, traveled off the side of the road and was ejected from the cycle after it left the highway.
Reports to The Logan Banner said Fields struck his head on a rock when the motorcycle threw him off.
The accident happened around 11 p.m. Saturday night, reports said.
Fields was flown to St. Marys Medical Center in Huntington, where he was pronounced dead Sunday morning.
Fields, a 1989 graduate of Matewan High School and a former football player for the Tigers, leaves behind his wife, Mickie, and their three sons, Keegan, Zachary and Austin. Funeral arrangements were incomplete Monday morning, but Chambers Funeral Home of Matewan is in charge of arrangements.
Fields lived most of his live in the Varney area.
