Jeffrey Totten Adams, 51, of Logan, was arrested in Logan County by Patrolman Mark Dickerson of the Logan Police Department for malicious wounding on Nov. 27.
According to police reports, Officer Dickerson responded to a call at Stratton Street on Nov. 20, in regards to a physical altercation.
"Upon my arrival, this officer asked two males standing in the doorway,'who was fighting?' One male known by this officer as (Adams) stated it was him, and then made the spontaneous utterance that he 'hit the boy' over an allegedly stolen purse," the report states. "Upon speaking with Adams, this officer placed him ...into the rear of my cruiser, pending further investigation."
Dickerson's statement said he then went to the apartment with E.M.T.s to speak with the victim, identified as "Romans".
"Upon speaking with Romans, this officer noticed an apparent broken nose and blood on the victim's pants. Romans stated that he was sitting in the floor speaking with the witness...suspect, and a female, Diana Gureer. Both the victim and Romans and the witness... stated that Adams stood up and stated he was leaving and then walked over and 'sucker punched' Romans in the face, causing the injuries."
After speaking with the witnesses, Dickerson released Adams pending further investigation.
"This officer then responded to (the) Logan Regional Medical Center Emergency Room to speak with Romans further," the report states. "Romans stated he was struck due to the alleged purse being stolen from Gureer, which Adams stated he had found in the garbage dumpster behind Hudgins St. Parking Building. A statement was obtained from Romans and this officer awaited (the) injury report from the E.R. staff. Upon results of the 'cat-scan,' this officer was informed that Romans has a broken nose, sinus bones and two missing teeth. This officer was also informed that Romans could possibly have further injuries to his skull and orbit (eye socket)."
A warrant was issued for Adams' arrest and he was taken into custody
He was booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden at 3 p.m. on a $5,000 bond.
It was not the only arrest in recent weeks on violence-related charges.
