The building once housed a telemarketing firm on the top floors, has a high tech communications infrastructure and has been on the market for some time.
Nolletti was supposed to meet with Tomblin Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. in Charleston, but was unable to do so as the city's sanitation board and city council meeting was scheduled the same evening at 5 p.m. Nolletti said the structure itself could possibly be transformed into a state government building. For some time, there have been plans to build a new state government building at the site of the old Pioneer Hotel, which was demolished this past summer.
Nolletti told the City Council that the meeting with Tomblin was rescheduled for Thursday and he would be able to attend.
"I think they have some plans drawn up," Nolletti said, explaining the council would have some input on the projects, regarding a possible facelift for the parking garage building.
Nolletti said a project manager had come to town a few weeks ago to look at the parking garage and that it was possible it could become a state building.
The city still owes a considerable amount of money on the building, which reportedly received about $10,000 a month in rent payments when the telemarketing firm was located there. Nolletti told reporters the monthly payment on the building has been a major drain on the city's budget.
