CHAPMANVILLE n It was another split on Wednesday night.
The Chapmanville Middle School girls’ basketball team won 51-14 over Williamson while the CMS boys fell 33-27.
Jenna Evans paced the CMS girls with 17 points in the victory.
Allison Evans had nine and Kelli Garrett had six points.
Katelyn Hall and Hailey Price tallied four apiece.
Heather Nagy added three points.
Makayla Browning, Breanna Jeffrey, Gabby Adkins and Autumn Baisden all had two points each.
Shareakua Jones paced Williamson with an 11-point effort.
CMS (8-1) is set to host George Washington this Saturday at 3 p.m.
“We played pretty good,” CMS coach Tommy Kirk said. “The girls really got after it on defense, especially the first half. We like to run the ball and play a fast-paced game. Your defense triggers all the action. I was very pleased with my players off the bench. They played most of the second half and really did a nice job.”
In the Chapmanville-Williamson boys’ contest, the Tigers got 16 points from Dylan Wiley.
Dustin Smith netted five. Brandon White, Michael Hurst and Tyler Killen all had two each.
Nick Lee poured in 21 points for the Wolfpack.
The CMS boys (2-5) are set to host Logan Middle School on Friday at 1 p.m.
“Our effort tonight was great,” Kirk said of the Chapmanville boys. “Their press didn’t hurt us nearly as bad as the game at Williamson. We played hard, we just have a hard time scoring. We’re so small. It’s hard to get points in the paint and we struggle shooting outside. We played hard. That’s all I can ask.”
In the JV game, the CMS boys beat Williamson 34-17.
Nick Brumfield and Brock Dalton paced the Tigers with 10 points each. William Copley had eight, Kenny Plumley four and Chance Gore two.
