Scott High School, the two-time defending champions, seem to be the team to beat again.
The No. 4-ranked Lady Hawks nailed that point home on Monday night after disposing of Chapmanville 47-33 at the Chapmanville Regional High School gym.
Scott simply dominated the game and used a 15-2 second quarter to turn a 4-4 tie after the first quarter into a 19-6 lead at the half.
That’s right.
The Lady Tigers had just six points at halftime.
Scott then outscored Chapmanville 17-7 in the third to take a commanding 36-13 lead.
The Lady Hawks led by as many as 26 in the early moments of the fourth quarter, then emptied the bench.
Chapmanville outscored Scott 20-11 in the fourth quarter, largely against Lady Hawk reserves, but it was too little too late.
The Lady Tigers dropped to 6-7 on the season with the loss.
Scott, a senior-dominated team which is having its best season in years, improved to 12-1.
It was a disappointing defeat for the Lady Tigers.
Many had expected Chapmanville to give Scott a much better game.
“We can’t shoot,” Lady Tigers’ coach Ronnie Ooten said. “We just can’t put the ball into the hole. You can’t get more open that we are getting. We just can’t score. When you are wide open and you can’t put the ball in the bucket it’s not the coach’s fault but we’re the ones that have to take the brunt of it. We’ve got a little internal problem now but I’ll adjust that. They dog each other too much instead of getting focused.”
Ooten was asked about Chapmanville’s six-point first half.
“That’s enough to make a man sick right there,” he said. “I don’t know. They just don’t stay focused. There’s always excuses why we aren’t doing better. They say,
