The city of Logan is asking residents to refrain from placing garbage out on sidewalks, vacant parking spaces or other inappropriate places within city limits.

Mayor Serafino Nolletti released a public service announcement earlier this week asking the public to place garbage in proper containers and only leave it out the evening before scheduled pickups.

"Residential garbage service is offered to residents twice a week," the PSA states. "And garbage is only to be left out the evening before garbage pick ups are scheduled. Garbage is also to be stored in sturdy garbage cans with a lid, and be of such weight that it can be handled by one man."

Failure to comply with the guidelines will result in a $250 fine for littering by the city police. Residents who are delinquent on their monthly bill or have not paid city fees are also in violation. Violators are asked to make payment arrangements by Feb. 28 at City Hall. Those who remain delinquent after the deadline will be issued a $250 fine.
