Shooter Ballinger, the son of Brian and Bobbi Akers Ballinger of Lake, celebrated his second birthday on January 11, 2008, with a Cars themed party. He has one big sister, Cortni. Shooter is the nephew of Rob and Teresa Akers of Lake and the cousin of J.R., Justin and Cheyenne Akers. Shooter is the grandson of Bonnie Akers, also of Lake.
100 years old
Loren “Cat” Cline of Gilbert will be celebrating his 100th birthday on Thursday, January 30. Cat attributes his long life to hard work and good food. He was a coal miner, hunter, farmer and timberman. In the 1920s, Cat help build the big towers you see today transporting electricity in Logan and Mingo Counties. He worked in the coal mines when “pick & shovel” actually described the labor. As a hunter, Cat was known as the best marksman in the area, both with a shotgun and rifle. A local landmark location was named after him, “Cat Cline Curve.” He and his beloved wife, Elsie, were married for 70 years. They are the parents of seven children, 20 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. As part of his birthday celebration, Cat is receiving a card from President George W. Bush and will air on the 100 year old segment of the Today Show on NBC. His family would like to have 100 birthday cards from area residents to enrich Cat’s birthday celebration. Celebrating his first birthday Saturday, January 26, was Jonathan Damron, the son of J.R. and Debra Damron of Chattaroy. Jonathan is the grandson of Judy Bailey of Dingess, Roger Damron of Chapmanville and Tom and Linda Fugitt of Chattaroy.
Saunders-Lueck to wed
Jamie Liane Saunders and Curtis Alexzander Lueck, both of Jupiter, Fla., is pleased to announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage. The bride-elect is the daughter of Darrell and Gertrude Saunders of Monaville. She is a 1995 graduate of Logan High School and a 2000 graduate of Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College with a degree in nursing. Jamie is employed with Columbia Hospital in West Palm Beach, Fla. The prospective groom is the son of Carolyn Clutter and Carl Lueck, both of Jupiter. He is a 1995 graduate of Palm Beach Lakes High and a 1998 graduate of the Connecticut School of Broadcasting with a degree in communications. He works as a freelancer. The couple will be united in marriage at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2008 at the Benvenutos in Boynton Beach, Fla.
Colley-Maynard wed December 31
Cassie Renee Colley and Jacob Isom Maynard were united in marriage on December 31, 2007, at 7 p.m. at the Mt. Carmel Freewill Baptist Church in Logan with Rev. Bobby G. Belcher performing the ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Jeff and Theresa Billups of Chesapeake, Ohio. She is a 2006 graduate of Chesapeake High School. The groom is the son of Orlantha Maynard of Harts and the late Isom Maynard. He is a 2003 graduate of Harts High School and is employed with Brody Mines at Bim. The bride was given in marriage by her father. Serving as matron of honor was Tiffany Smith of Chesapeake and serving as best man was Joe Maynard, brother of the groom. Flower girls were Baylee Belcher and Alexis Adkins, both cousins of the bride. Nathan Ramey, cousin of the groom, served as ring bearer. The couple, along with their beautiful baby girl, Addison Shea, is making their home at Harts. Addison was born September 26, 2007, weighing 7 pounds, 9 ounces and being 20.5 inches long.
