County players to take part in Friday’s Twin Rivers Classic

GILBERT n Several Logan County and area basketball players will be on the prep hardwood one more time on Friday night.

That’s when the 10th-annual Pepsi Twin Rivers Classic All-Star Game is set to be played at the Larry Joe Harless Community Center in Gilbert.

The games involve senior players from Logan, Mingo, Wayne, Mercer, Lincoln, McDowell and Wyoming counties.

The girls’ game is set to tip off at 6:30 p.m. on Friday with the boys’ game to follow at 8:15 p.m.

This year’s game will also feature a 3-point shooting contest.

The classic will feature Blue and Gold all-star teams.

The Gold teams will consist of players from McDowell, Mercer, Wyoming and Lincoln counties.

The Blue teams will comprise players from Logan, Mingo and Wayne counties.

The teams will practice tonight and Thursday nights at the LJHCC.

The Blue team girls will be coached by Tolsia High School’s Ric Marrone.

Logan High School seniors Amanda Blair, Tara Williams and Shay McCoy are on the Blue team.

Also on the Blue team are: Tug Valley’s Courtney Newsome and Christian Ross; Tolsia’s Karli Parsley, Nikki Dillon, Cortney Gillman and Toni Farley; Williamson’s Marissa Grace; Matewan’s Rebecca Dearfield; and Burch’s Amy Edwards.

The Gold girls’ all-star team is coached by Dianna Pruitt of Big Creek and Doug Damron of Iaeger and consists of: Kala Muncy and Terri McCoy of Iaeger; Kanah Prichard of Lincoln County; Sami Lusk and Markie Gunnels of Westside; and Alexis Montgomery, Dominek Newbill, Ashley Shelton and Whitney Koboski of Mount View.

The Blue boys’ all-star team will be coached by Williamson’s Curt Fletcher and Matewan’s Carl Sparks and Phillip Mitchell.

Comprising the team will be: Jordan Calandros, Greg Adams and Jacob Long of Logan; Adam Dingess, Zak Martin and Steve Bailey of Chapmanville; Chad Damron, Aaron Perry and Evan Sturgill of Tug Valley; Andy West and Jarrod McCormick of Williamson; and Kevin Baisden and Cody Stanley of Burch.

The Gold boys are coached by Jerry Miller of Gilbert and Kenny Brown of Mount View.

The players who will make up the team are: Cody Kennedy of Iaeger; Taylor Dunlop of Lincoln County; Dustin Donahoe of Westside; Deante Marshall, Codero High and Jeremy Hayes of Mount View; Justin Browning, Quinn Miller, Brad Rawls and Blake Burgess of Gilbert; Nathan Curry and Tyler Morris of Beth Haven Christian; and Blake Cook and Cory Willard of Class AA state champion Wyoming East.
