WEST HAMLIN, W.Va. - Fred Evans, 67, of West Hamlin, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2008, at St. Mary's Medical Center after a long illness.

Born March 22, 1941, at Logan, he was a son of the late Garfield Maynard and the late Lori Evans of Logan. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Lola Sobeick of Chapmanville, and a brother, Tommy Maynard of Chapmanville.

Fred was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways and Houdaille Industries at Huntington.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Sue Ann Triplett Evans; two loving daughters, Robin Ann Simpkins and Herbert Spry of Fall Creek, and Lori Sue Evans and Pat McChristian of West Hamlin; four very special grandchildren, Shawn Simpkins of Huntington, Chasity (Jamie) Sansom of England, and Chad Evans and Ashley Lea Ferguson, both of West Hamlin; brothers, Clark and Leonard Evans of Danville; a sister, Deloris Strathdee of Chapmanville; a very special aunt, Verona "Doll" Lambert of Logan; a lot of cousins, nieces, nephews and a lot of friends that he also loved very much; a very special great-grandchild on the way; and two special friends, Austin Sloan of Hamlin and Hampton Midkiff of Salt Rock.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at the Handley Funeral Home at Hamlin with Lonnie Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Memory Gardens at Hamlin where American Legion Post 111 will conduct Military Graveside Rites.

Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Handley Funeral Home of Hamlin is in charge of the arrangements.
