Gov. Joe Manchin took part in Friday afternoon's Chief Logan State Park Recreation Center groundbreaking ceremony. The rec center, which will have tennis courts, a swimming pool, walking tracks and other attractions to help Logan Countians live a healthy lifestyle, is scheduled to open in a year. Manchin took time to pose for a few photos with Logan High School students Megan Gartin, Olivia Wooten, Makayla McLemore and Chad Gartin, and then signed the official groundbreaking shovel for Greg Wooten. The shovel will be placed in the trophy case at the new rec center and will be on permanent display. The LHS students assisted with the ceremony by signing in guests, welcoming visitors and helped with the set-up and cleanup of the activities. Wooten was one of several area businessmen who were instrumental in getting the rec center and the Earl Ray Tomblin Convention Center built in Chief Logan State Park. Photos/Michael Browning
