The Corps or Engineers at R.D. Bailey Lake is working near the Big Branch Recreation Area to construct an anchoring system for a floating trash boom. The construction consists of anchoring a permanent floating trash boom on the Coal Mountain Road bridge piers, which will assist in the collection of drift and debris during high water events. When the work is completed, the lake will be filled to the summer pool elevation and the Guyandotte Point and Big Branch Recreation Areas will be opened. The anticipated date to begin filling the lake is April 15th.

To ensure public safety, park visitors should stay clear of the construction work in the Big Branch area. Although the Big Branch gate may be open, visitors should not drive through the gate until the construction work is completed.

The winter launch ramp will remain open until the lake reaches summer pool to accommodate boaters and fishermen. The primitive area of the Guyandotte Campground will open on April 17th and the Reedy Creek and Locust Branch camping areas will open May 23rd.

The Coal Mt. gate located off of 6/2
