Ronnie Hunter, 54, of Pecks Mill, was pronounced dead at Logan Regional Medical Center after he was involved in a collision between his Toyota pickup truck and a tractor trailer driven by Lance Tindall of Edwards, Mo., around 10:40 a.m. Saturday, according to Logan County Sheriff Eddie Hunter.
The sheriff said eye-witnesses saw Hunter traveling southbound on U.S. Route 119 when he attempted to cross U.S. 119 to make a left-hand turn onto the Old Logan Road and pulled into the path of the tractor trailer at Godby near the Farmer's Market.
Tindall refused medical treatment, despite suffering minor injuries. Hunter was transported to Logan Regional Medical Center by Logan
Emergency Ambulance Service Authority, where he was pronounced dead.
Traffic was shut down on the Corridor for two hours while crews from the Chapmanville and Henlawson fire departments cleaned up diesel fuel. A truckload of sand was placed onto the diesel spill by the Department of Highways workers.
Chapmanville Police and Logan Police assisted the Logan County Sheriff's Department with traffic.
Logan County Sheriff's Deputies B.D. Cobb, J.L. Mathis and N.M. Booth are the investigating officers.
Motor Carrier Enforcement Officer Olen York performed a safety inspection on the tractor trailer.
