WILLIAMSON (AP) - Mingo County - famous for the Hatfield-McCoy feud and 20th century labor strife - is finally getting an official seal, one that highlights the county's industrious history.

Roy Messer, an artist who lives in Wharncliffe, designed the seal, which includes the old county courthouse, a steam engine and a coal miner with a pick and shovel.

The border is made of 35 stars, since West Virginia was the 35th state admitted to the union.

Messer was asked to take up the project by Circuit Court Judge Michael Thornsbury.

The Mingo County Commission is expected to vote on the seal at its Wednesday meeting.
