The Logan County Commission's countywide cleanup program got off to a good start in Man over the weekend.

Logan County Administrator Rocky Adkins said the free trash pickup gathered a quarter million pounds of garbage from residents in the Man area and nearly 1,500 tires.

"I'd say that's pretty successful for a three-day operation," Adkins said.

Adkins said the commission hopes the pounds of trash will decrease each year as the annual cleanup continues.

"The commissioners are sold on the garbage cleanup they did last year and (Logan County Commission President) Art (Kirkendoll) is confident that we can continue this project yearly and see the numbers dwindle each year," Adkins said.

This week, the cleanup moves to Yuma across from Valley Welding. The cleanup starts on Thursday and ends on Saturday and runs from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Logan County residents can drop off trash at the dump sites and old tires, but only passenger vehicle tires.

The sites will not accept industrial tires like it did last year due to state regulations.

Tires will only be collected on Fridays during the cleanup's four-weekend tour through Logan County, Adkins said.

There is also a limit of 10 passenger vehicle tires per person, he added.

The cleanup then moves to the old K-City parking lot and then will go to Chapmanville for its final weekend.
