Sen. Clinton's State Campaign Manager Tally Sargent confirmed yesterday afternoon in an exclusive call to The Logan Banner that Sen. Clinton will make a campaign stop here on Monday.
"We're working to find the right venue to have enough space for (the event)," Sargent said. "We have just confirmed that she will be in Logan on Monday. We're going to take care of our friends in Logan proper and Logan County and it should be a great event. The Clintons have not forgotten Logan County. It's a very important area."
The time and location of Sen. Clinton's stop in Logan has yet to be decided, Sargent said.
The presidential campaign stop is one of several Sen. Clinton will make in West Virginia over the next four days, Sargent said.
Former President Bill Clinton was in Madison this morning and will be in Williamson this afternoon for campaign stops.
According to a source in Mingo County, Republican presidential candidate John McCain will stop in Logan on May 16, three days after the election.
McCain is the front runner for the GOP presidential nomination.
Logan County has been visited by at least four presidential campaigns in past elections.
John F. Kennedy visited Logan in the 1960 election, while his brother came to Logan in 1968.
In 2000 and 2004, Sen. Ted Kennedy returned to Logan to campaign for Al Gore and John Kerry. He was joined on the campaign trail by U.S. Senators Robert C. Byrd and John D. "Jay" Rockefeller.
This year, Kennedy is supporting Sen. Barack Obama, as is Rockefeller and Congressman Nick Rahall. Obama's campaign has not indicated it will visit Logan before the Tuesday primary election.
Reports Friday said Republican presidential hopeful John McCain will campaign in Logan on May 16.
Those reports were unconfirmed at press time Friday morning.
