CHAPMANVILLE - The Man High School baseball team led Van 2-1 heading into the top of the fifth inning when the wheels fell off and the Bulldogs walked away with a 14-2 win over the Billies in the Class A sectional finals at Chapmanville's Ted Ellis Field.

Van erupted for 13 runs off four Man pitchers to claim the sectional championship.

Man saw its season come to an end at 11-17-1.

Duke Vance suffered the loss on the hill for Man while Jarod Thomas got the win for the Bulldogs.

Man and Van both scored runs in the first inning as the game was knotted up 1-1.

The Billies then took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second as Vance tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Cody Harvey. Van then sent 17 batters to the plate in the top of the fifth as Vance was replaced on the mound by Travis Hurley and later Steven Craddock and Harvey.

Loren Harsbarger smacked a grand slam homer in the inning for the Bulldogs.

Van ended up outhitting Man 11-6. Evan Riggins had two triples to lead Man.

Vance added his triple and also had a single. Zac Robinson and David Johnson each singled. Man was led in the sectional tourney by interim head coach Travis Hurley, the player's dad. Former head coach Chris Harvey had taken a new job as the assistant strength and conditioning coach with the Florida State University football team.
