CHAPMANVILLE - Logan County School busses have been involved in at least five crashes this year.

The fifth collision happened yesterday at East Chapmanville Grade School as the last bus pulled out of the lot to take students home.

There were no injuries to the 20 students on board, Logan County Schools Assistant Superintendent Jim Guy said this morning.

"All the children were checked by EMTs and put onto another bus and taken home," Guy said. "Principal Darrell Bias did a good job of notifying the parents."

Logan Emergency Ambulance Service Authority crews examined the children and bus driver and all were okay, Guy said.

The truck apparently failed to stop and collided with the front end of the bus, causing only minor damage to both vehicles. Guy said he believes the driver of the truck was taken to nearby Logan Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

No citations were issued to either driver, Guy said.

The crash, which happened around 4 p.m., was investigated by the Chapmanville Police and Chapmanville Fire Department assisted with the crash and traffic control.

Guy said traffic was tied up during the investigation and the examinations of the children on board.

Guys said this makes the fifth bus crash this year. Only one of those crashes, though, has been the fault of the school bus driver, Guy added. There have been no serious injuries to students or bus drivers in any of the crashes.
