Your "Where We Stand" editorial in the Friday, May 9th, paper made me want to jump off a bridge. How dare you criticize Senator Barack Obama by stating that the doesn't care about the people of West Virginia. Never did you mention the stops he's made to places like Charleston, Beckley, ect. I had the privilege of meeting him when he came to the University of Charleston March 19th. In your Clinton-loving rant, you never mentioned why Obama wasn't making a stop in the coalfields. So allow me to tell you.
Obama is hitting Oregon hard, a state he is favored to win. So why would Obama waste his time here? And, by the way, there is that little matter of race. Does The Logan Banner honestly believe that the white people of Southern West Virginia are really going to vote for an African American? Yes, the Kennedy's came here, but at least they could hide their Catholicism. Also, Ted Kennedy did come to Logan to campaign for Gore and Kerry. Both states went for Bush. How's that working out by the way?
So, tell me why The Logan Banner don't ask the questions that Obama supporters like me want answered. Why can't these hillbillies support a nonwhite candidate? If I was Obama, I wouldn't come here either because Southern West Virginia will never vote for him anyhow. It's not Obama's problem that West Virginia is 40 years behind the rest of the country. And regarding the Clintons, their only here out of desperation. They are pandering to those he who don't know any better. This-most laughable part of your editorial is the belief that Bill and Hillary understand blue-collar workers. The Clinton's have spent half their life in the White House, the other half in the Governor's Manchin in Arkansas. Why don't do an article on the life of Barack Obama. A man that grew up with little money. A man that just recently finished paying off his student loans because he didn't come from a privileged family. He didn't have a rich father to pay for college. A man who began his career working in the slums of Chicago as a community organizer helping underprovided children and churches. What hard work has Hillary ever done?
This primary is about winning the Democratic nomination, which Obama has all but locked up, sorry Hillary lovers. A candidate can't be everywhere. They go where they have shot at winning. Does Hillary not care about the states she doesn't visit? Your dirty cheap shot on Obama was right out of the Clinton/Republican playbook. Shame on you Logan Banner! Have you no decency?
That's where I stand! By the way, I'm white and for Obama.
