CHAPMANVILLE - The Logan County Commission cleanup project will finish up its tour of the county on starting tomorrow.

The cleanup lasts through Saturday and only accepts tires on Fridays. It opens each morning at 8 a.m. and runs to 7 p.m. each evening and will be conducted at Sawmill Road in Chapmanville, according to Commission President Art Kirkendoll.

"Based on what I've seen, I think the county looks a lot cleaner," Kirkendoll said. "We hope that people will take pride in their county and will continue to keep it clean."

The cleanup project has coal trucks and loaders collecting trash from Logan County residents for free.

Kirkendoll said several truckloads of garbage were hauled to the transfer station in Charleston.

At least 50 truckloads were taken out of Logan over the last two weeks when the cleanup was held at the old K-City/Furniture World parking lot.

The cleanup effort was started last year by the Logan County Commission and it received funding from the state this year in the amount of $75,000.

Kirkendoll said he hopes to continue the project next year. "This cleanup project has been great," Kirkendoll said. "As long as we have the ability and the means to clean our county, it'll make Logan County easier to promote. We've got to keep our county clean, no matter what. We need to keep working each year."
