The group was forced to cancel one recent gospel sing when a well respected member of the community passed away unexpectedly. Members discussed watching homes for the family during the wake and services, a routine service the group does for the community.
The group will be gearing up for a Block Party on Saturday, May 31 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. A pig roast is planned for part of the festivities.
The group's biggest event will be the National Nite Out held at the Omar Tennis Court on Tuesday, Aug. 5th. Sponsors for the event are being sought and donations will be appreciated, members say, to help pay for music and rides for kids. The last two National Nite Out events have been very successful in bringing large crowds together for an evening of family fun to show support for volunteers in watch groups across the country.
Members of the OACW will also begin working on gathering signatures for a petition to Gov. Joe Manchin and the WV Legislature asking for more long term rehabilitation services in our region.
