I am writing to voice some after Primary Election thoughts and concerns. Before the main purpose of my letter, allow me to make the following comment.
Throughout their political careers, all three, Senator Byrd, Senator Rockefeller and Congressman Rahall have done many good things for the citizens of West Virginia. I believe in part because they have listened to their constituents. Are they now above listening? I ask because of the following.
Around the first of April, Senator Rockefeller and Congressman Rahall endorsed Senator Obama as the presidential candidate, a month and a half prior to our Primary Election. I wrote both voicing my disfavor, not because of the candidate, but rather the timing of the endorsement.
I also made two predictions. One, West Virginia's voters would not support the candidate and two, if their endorsed candidate is the presidential nominee, they would be instrumental in putting another Republican in the White House, in November. At present I am 50 percent correct. November will reveal if I am 100 percent!
West Virginia's voters choose Senator Clinton by more than a two-to-one margin. It is very possible, with their endorsement, as a super delegate, they have in effect nullified the voter's choice of candidate. What happened to government "of the people, for the people, and by the people"? It is quite obvious that all three, Byrd, Rockefeller and Rahall, have elevated themselves above this concept.
Personally, I believe they have out served their usefulness in the political process. All will have opposition come November. I believe it to be very important, we as voters, to remember their total disregard for our choice of candidate. They have told us our votes do not count and they will decide who to support. Since my vote doesn't count, you can bet your life neither of them will get it!
In closing, I have been a Democratic voter my entire life, but if their endorsed candidate prevails for the General Election that will change. You must make your own choice, but it is very important that you do vote.
