Police make several arrests

A Georgia man was charged with a felony arrest in Logan recently.

Robert Earl Chafin, 51, of Dawsonville, Ga. was arrested by Officers Kevin Conley and R. Adkins of the Logan Police Department on shoplifting third offense (felony) on June 5.

According to law enforcement reports, the officers responded to a shoplifting complaint from Wal-Mart, when they were told Chafin "was in the electronics section selecting merchandise, went to the grocery aisle with ... items and removed SD card from (a) package, proceeding to front of (the) store, made a purchase, exited GM side doors without paying for concealed items."

Chafin allegedly, "Also, had one Cannon 5515 camera concealed in right side shorts pocket, and was apprehended by staff," the report states. "The accused was placed under arrest for shoplifting, 3rd offense."

Usually, shoplifting is a misdemeanor arrest, however Chafin was accused of third offense shoplifting with two prior convictions on the charge, making the arrest a felony. The report states Chafin had two prior shoplifting convictions on"2002/11/12 convicted, 2006/08/17 convicted."

He was booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at 6:55 p.m.
