GILBERT, W.Va. - Roy E. Perry, 83, of Gilbert, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Thursday, June 26, 2008, from his residence.
Born August 24, 1924, at Gilbert, he was a son of the late Bruce B. and Lona Workman Perry. Also preceding him in death were four brothers, Ray, Troy, Hubert and Junior Perry; two sisters, Marie Perry Wilson and Claudia Perry Elkins, and man's best friends - Rex and Benji Perry.
Roy was a Corporal in the U.S. Army, serving from 1943 to 1945. He received the following decorations and citations: Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon, Service Medal and the Phillpinex Liberation. Roy grew up and spent most of his life at Horsepen. He was very patriotic and an avid fan of WVU sports. He loved his animals and would feed whatever creature would come on his property. He was a retired custodian for the Mingo County Board of Education and was a born again Christian.
Those left to love and cherish his memory include two sons, Terry (Allison) Perry of Justice and Neil (Lesley) Perry of Hampden; a daughter, Diana (Michael) Francis of Hampden; a sister, Eurydice (Jack) Ferrell of Hampden; two granddaughters, Sabrina (Billy) Manuel of Hurricane and Brandy Perry of Bluewell; a grandson, Anthony Perry of Justice; two step grandchildren, Chasity Morgan and Keisha Carter; special friends, Janice Gibson and Dewayne and Melissa Chapman Cline; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends whom he loved greatly. He also left behind a host of squirrels, fish, ducks, birds and a cat who he loved so much.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with the Evangelist Billy Manuel officiating. Burial will follow in the Hollywood Cemetery at Gilbert with Military Graveside Rites performed by the Disable American Veterans Chapter 141 of Belfry, Ky.
Pallbearers will be Bruce and Jeff Ferrell, Dewayne Cline, Johnny Blankenship, Keith and Jeremy Perry, and Andreau Chapman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Ferrell, Billy Ray Blankenship, Michael Francis and Larry Watson.
