A local West Virginia State Police Trooper who is considered one of the hardest-working law enforcement officers in Logan County was honored recently by the West Virginia Trooper's Association.
Trooper Jared R. Brewer of the West Virginia State Police Logan Detachment was nominated for the 2007 Trooper of the Year Award and was one of the four runners-up for the award during the annual West Virginia State Police Troopers Association Banquet held on June 14 at Lakeview Resort in Morgantown.
Fifteen Troopers were nominated state-wide for the award and only five finalists were selected based on their merits and individual achievements.
Brewer was recognized with a plaque for his accomplishments during the 2007 calendar year. Brewer was one of the most active troopers in the state during 2007 conducting 375 criminal investigations and answering 779 calls for service from the community. Trooper Brewer also made 121 drug arrests and 27 driving under the influence arrests. Brewer made 100 felony arrests, 310 misdemeanor arrests, and 476 citations.
Brewer conducted investigations on a wide variety during 2007 including a homicide/suicide, sexual assaults, aggravated robberies, burglaries and cultivations of marijuana. He also received the Governor's Highway Safety Program Safe Traffic Operations Program (STOP) "Looking Beyond the Ticket" Award for his efforts during a drug investigation which netted 11 pounds of marijuana, $16,800.00 in cash and 16 firearms.
Brewer also participated in community oriented policing activities such as the "National Read to Me" day at Holden and Logan Grade Schools and he was assigned as the Safe Schools Trooper for South Man, Man Central, and Verdunville Grade Schools conducting school site surveys and working with school staff to ensure student safety.
Trooper Brewer is a native of Grantsville and graduate of Calhoun County High School. Trooper Brewer was attending West Virginia University at Parkersburg when he enlisted with the West Virginia State Police in 2005. Trooper Brewer graduated the West Virginia State Police Academy and was stationed in Logan in April 2006.
