"I busted a guy with a bottle of morphine sulfate and he had 20 morphine pills, as well as oxycontin and suboxin," Man Police Sgt. Walls told The Logan Banner, noting that morphine is an unusual drug to find in our region.
Jackie L. Adkins Jr. 33, of Gilmere Drive, Ohio, was arrested in Man by Sgt. Dave Walls of the Man Police Department on July 7 for delivery of a controlled substance, failure to drive right of center and obstructing an officer.
According to police reports, Sgt. Walls made a traffic stop on a 1982 Datsun 280 ZX with Ohio plates for crossing the center line.
"After speaking with the accused, this officer noticed that he (Jackie) was acting very suspicious and nervous," the report states. "This officer Dispatched Deputy (Dennis) Brown with his K-9 from the Logan County Sheriff's Department. After several passes around the vehicle, the K-9 hit on the car, signaling that there were drugs in the vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle, a bottle of morphine sulfate (unopened), 20 mg/ ...(One fluid ounce) was discovered in a cell phone case. Further searching the vehicle (uncovered) a palm sized camouflaged flashlight containing several pills, now identified as eight 80 mg oxycontin's, twenty 100 mg morphine tablets and seven suboxen tablets. "
Before the search began, the defendant reportedly denied having any contraband items, the report states.
"The accused stated that he paid $1000.00 in cash for the drugs and would have made $2000.00 after selling them," the report adds.
Adkins was booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden at 2:45 p.m. on $7,500.00 bond.
