Gas prices fell an average of six cents per gallon throughout much of the coalfields, with a gallon of regular unleaded dropping to $3.97 in some areas of the state.

In Lincoln County yesterday evening, gas near Alum Creek was at $3.97 for a gallon of regular unleaded and it was averaging $3.99 a gallon in South Charleston.

Last week, gas had dropped to $3.97 at a Nitro gas station, but gas prices remained at $4.09 here in Logan County until yesterday.

At some Logan County gas stations this morning, the price for a gallon of regular unleaded was still at $4.09, but stations in West Logan and three in Stollings had lowered their prices by six cents.

In Boone County, gas prices were still at $4.09 at several stations this morning, but at least one had lowered its price for a gallon of regular gas to $4.03.
