Pageants to kick off Fall Fest/County Fair

HAMLIN - Lincoln County's 2008 Fall Festival & County Fair will be the first week-long event to be held at Memorial Fairground.

The expanded schedule for this year's fair will kick off Saturday, September 6, with the Fall Festival Pageants being held that day. The Youth Pageant will begin at noon, followed by the Teen/Miss Pageant scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Both events will be held in the Exhibit Hall at the fairgrounds.

Entries to both pageants are currently being accepted. Eligible ages for the pageants are: Youth (Boys and Girls) Birth-12, Teen (Girls only) 13-15, Miss 16-21.

Applications can be requested by calling DeDee at 524-7422, Nona at 824-5161, or picked up at From Trash To Treasures in downtown Hamlin. Lincoln County residence is not required. Deadline for entries is August 26.

Sponsored by Lincoln County Fairs & Festivals, the newly elected Queen from this pageant will advance to competition in the statewide WV Association of Fairs & Festivals pageant to be held in January. Lincoln County's 2006 Fall Festival Queen, Talia Markham, was crowned Queen of the statewide pageant in 2007 and represented the Association at fairs and other activities held all around the state during that year.

The 2008 fair's schedule will include a Mud Bog on Sunday, Sept. 7, with musical entertainment each evening that week.

The amusement carnival will open on Wednesday evening. Day-long activities will be held Friday, Sept. 12, through Sunday, Sept. 14.
