Logan resident accused of sex assault

In recent months local law enforcement officers have made several arrests for alleged sex crimes, and another arrest was made recently in the city of Logan.

* Johnny Lee Cooper, 22, of Logan, was arrested by Chief E.K. Harper and Patrolman J.D. Adkins of the Logan Police Department for first degree sexual assault on Aug. 6. According to law enforcement reports the victim and defendant were at an apartment on Stratton Street when the alleged incident occurred on July 17.

"The victim states that the defendant grabbed her by the neck and choked her and then struck her in the forehead," the report states. "The defendant then forced the victim to perform oral sex on him. Chief Harper observed red marks on the victim's neck and an abrasion on her forehead."

A warrant was issued for Cooper's arrest and he was taken into custody on Aug. 6 and was booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at 10:33 p.m.

In other law enforcement news:

* Monica Ann Pauley, 24, residence not listed, was arrested in Logan County by the Logan County Sheriff's Department for capias (failure to appear in court) on Aug. 4. She was booked at the regional jail at 2:40 p.m.

* Sylvia Marie Newsome, 18, residence not listed, was arrested in Mingo County by the West Virginia State Police for brandishing a weapon on Aug. 4. She was booked at the regional jail at 5:40 p.m.

* Frankie Wayne Hathaway, 52, residence not listed, was arrested in Logan County by the Logan Police Department for DUI and reckless driving on Aug. 3 He was booked at the regional jail at 12:36 p.m.

* Brandon Thomas Diamond, 19, residence not listed, was arrested in Mingo County by the Mingo County Sheriff's Department for underage drinking and domestic assault on Aug. 3. He was booked at the regional jail at 9:52 p.m.

* Roy Lee Johnson, 42, residence not listed, was arrested in Boone County by the Boone County Sheriff's Department for public intoxication and disorderly conduct on Aug. 2. He was booked at the regional jail at 4:32 p.m.
