BRANCHLAND, W.Va. - Chester C. McCloud, 71, of Branchland passed away after a short illness Sunday, August 10, 2008, at the VA Medical Center in Huntington.

Born July 12, 1937, at Dingess, he was the eldest son of the late William P. and Reba Jude McCloud. Also preceding him in death was one brother, Hassell "Hack" McCloud, and one brother-in-law, Michael Vulcano.

Mr. McCloud was a Korean War era U.S. Army veteran and a retired boiler maker.

Survivors include one son, Chester C. (Kathy Adkins) McCloud II of Huntington; one grandson, Brayden J. "Brady" McCloud; five sisters, Alberta (Woodrow) Wilson of Cedar Creek, Texas, Pauline Vulcano of Charlotte, N.C., Clotine Dille of Mentor, Ohio, and Dora McCloud and Ivadene (Tim) Goddard, both of Branchland; four brothers, Hartley "Doug" (Brenda) McCloud of Cleveland, Ohio, William "Benny" (Carolyn) McCloud of Branchland Herbert (Teresa) McCloud of Jacksonville, Ohio, and Wallace "Ike" (Sharon) McCloud of Milton; one sister-in-law, Alice F. McCloud, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to Rev. Ernest and Linda Vance for all their help. Also one devoted caregiver, Kristen McColgan.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 14, at the Koontz Funeral Home at Hamlin with Rev. Lonnie Wilson and Kim Stone officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Cemetery at Branchland.

His nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Koontz Funeral Home of Hamlin is in charge of arrangements.
