Sgt. Brian Brown with the Logan detachment of the WVSP said the plants, all found in the Beech Creek area yesterday afternoon, was the biggest one-day eradication he's seen in his six-and-a-half years in Logan.
"We found 10,635 plants in 17 different plots, all out of the Mingo County area of Beech Creek," Sgt. Brown said this morning in a phone interview with The Logan Banner. "It was everywhere"
The 10,635 marijuana plants, discovered in fields, carry a street value of $2,000 each for a total value of $21,270,000, according to Sgt. Brown.
"It's a big haul for one day," Sgt. Brown said. "I'd say that's the biggest one-day haul we've had since I've been stationed here."
Reports this morning said the eradication is the biggest in Mingo County in the past two decades and the largest in West Virginia this year.
"Our spotter, Cpl. Roger Johnson with the West Virginia State Police and our raid unit, spotted it yesterday during the eradication, which started around the end of July," Sgt. Brown said. "We destroyed the plants last night."
Brown said no arrests have been made as yet.
