What's so great?

Editor,

Recently, Brian Dingess, (USMC, Sgt.) wrote a letter to you. I am writing in response to that letter. He stated that he and four other men were coming to West Virginia to visit for Labor Day weekend. All these men are or were in the USMC. They had met in Okinawa, Japan. He said that he would like to "tell his story" along with his friends.

He also mentioned having the community "greet" them.

I just have to ask what it was that these individuals have accomplished that is so great? I am not saying that being in the military isn't an accomplishment. I come from a long line of proud military members, and I uphold them to the highest - it is because of them that we are free. I know that some members fight hard and go through many things; I also know that some join, get mixed up with the wrong things and think that just because they are "serving" the world owes them something, when in reality they are the "bad eggs" in the military and are just a strain on the tax payer's dollars.

So, in thinking about a "welcoming" for these men, I would just like to know what they have done for our country.
