The cheapest gas in the Logan-Mingo-Boone-Lincoln County area is in Chapmanville, where, at three gas stations, a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.69.
Just up the road in Danville, gas is at $3.79 a gallon. Gas in Logan is averaging $3.75 per gallon. At the Hatfield-McCoy Mart at the Fountain Place Mall, a gallon of regular unleaded was still $3.90.
In Lincoln County near the Alum Creek exit on U.S. Route 119, gas is at $3.75 per gallon. Less than 10 miles north of Lincoln County in Kanawha County gas at the Dudley Farms Speedway was $3.79 on Friday. In Kanawha City last week, gas was at $3.75 per gallon.
In Danville, a gallon of regular unleaded was up to $3.79, which is four cents higher than last week. Gas went up at several stations in Boone County before Labor Day from $3.75 to $3.79.
Gas prices experienced a brief hike in Logan County just before the holiday weekend, but quickly went back down.
In Mingo County, gas prices were $3.79 in North Matewan, $3.79 at one station in Delbarton, $3.85 at a station in Lincoln City, $3.99 at Varney and $3.89 at Musick. At a station near Chattaroy, a gallon of regular unleaded was still at $3.89, while gas in Williamson was at $3.79 per gallon.
Reportedly, gas prices in Pikeville, Ky., just 50 miles south of Logan, have fallen to around $3.51 per gallon.
According to a report by The Associated Press issued last week, "Oil prices plunged to the lowest level in five months Tuesday, falling to within sight of $100 a barrel on signs that Hurricane Gustav only grazed U.S. energy infrastructure in the Gulf of Mexico," The Associated Press report said.
