AMHERSTDALE - A two-car crash yesterday evening resulted in the death of an elderly Accoville man.

West Virginia State Police Trooper B.K. Wellman said 83-year-old Ab Zirkle died at Logan Regional Medical Center after he crashed his Monte Carlo into the back end of an SUV sitting off the road on County Route 16 at Amherstdale yesterday evening around 5 p.m.

"The SUV was completely off the road talking to someone and Mr. Zirkle drifted off the road for unknown reasons and hit the back end of the SUV," Wellman said. "He made it to the hospital and they pronounced him dead there."

The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe was not injured, Wellman said. The occupants of the SUV were not transported to Logan Regional Medical Center, Wellman added.
