A gallon of regular unleaded gasoline yesterday at stations in Stollings and in Aracoma was $3.75. This morning, it spiked to $3.85 at several locations, despite the fact that oil prices continue to decline.
At Chapmanville, the Speedway raised its price for a gallon of regular unleaded from $3.69 to $3.85.
A caller to The Logan Banner called to complain about the rising prices at the two stations.
"What is going on," the caller asked.
"Oil prices keep falling and the gas prices in our area keep going up. That's not right. These gas stations are trying to gouge us."
Gas at the Exxon in downtown Logan was $3.75 today at 7:30 a.m. At Danville, gas was still at $3.79 this morning.
In Lincoln County on U.S. Route 119 near the Kanawha County border was $3.75 last night and gas in Charleston was averaging $3.79 a gallon at the South Ridge and Dudley Farms gas stations last night.
According to a report by The Associated Press, "Light, sweet crude fell $2.26 to $104.08 in premarket electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Prices fell as investors placed bets that a weakening Hurricane Ike might not affect drilling and refining operations in the Gulf of Mexico."
