CHAPMANVILLE - The Chapmanville Regional High girls' volleyball team split a tri-match on Tuesday at Tug Valley, beating the host Lady Panthers and losing to Tolsia.
The Lady Tigers topped Tug Valley, 25-23, 25-14, then lost to Tolsia, 25-17, 25-20.
"The girls played so good these matches," Chapmanville coach Michelle Ball said. "We worked as a team and played as a team. We really should have won the match with Tolsia. There were some bad calls that got the girls frustrated and we couldn't pull back from it. I can see the girls coming together and learning to work with each other a lot more. They played great and I was very very proud of them."
Charnetta Adams and Kristen Justice each had two aces for the Lady Tigers. Cortney Willis and Anna Butcher had one each.
In the match with Tug Valley, Justice had three kills, while Butcher, Lydia Vance and Shayna Damron had two each. Jenna Vance had one kill.
Damron added four assists and Whitney Copley had three.
Against Tolsia, Adams had five aces. Jenna Vance and Willis had two apiece. Butcher and Lydia Vance had one each. Jenna Vance had four kills. Butcher had three and Justice two.
Last Thursday at the Charleston Civic Center, Chapmanville dropped a pair of matches, falling to Poca, 25-22, 25-7, then losing to Class AAA St. Albans, 25-21, 28-26.
"The girls played really good at the Civic Center," Ball said. "We were missing one of our starters, Anna Butcher, so that hurt us a little bit. The girls played awesome against St. Albans. It was back and forth the whole game but they ended up pulling ahead and winning. Poca has a good team. I was proud of the girls for playing hard on the first game but by the last game they just couldn't pull it together. Overall I was very happy with their performance."
In the Poca match, Copley finished with three serving aces. Justice had two and Jenna Vance one. Lydia Vance had two kills and Jenna Vance one. Copley and Damron had one assist each.
Against St. Albans, Justice, Jenna Vance, Copley and Adams had one ace each. Laura Campbell and Lydia Vance had two kills each. Damron had five assists.
Chapmanville was scheduled to host county rival Man on Wednesday night. The Lady Tigers host Sherman and Tolsia tonight in a tri-match and play at Sissonville on Sept. 30.
