Civil War reenactment starts tomorrow

CHIEF LOGAN STATE PARK - The Rebellion in the Hills Civil War reenactment will be returning to Chief Logan State Park this weekend, and the tentative schedule of events promises something for everyone.

* On Saturday, children's activities will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

* The ladies formal tea is set to start at 11 a.m. and will run until noon. A reenactor performing as Mary Todd Lincoln will host the event at the log cabin.

* A battlefield skirmish starts at 2 p.m. and runs till 3 p.m. A reenactor performing as a period doctor will begin demonstrations after the battle.

* Dinner for reenactors will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday.

* From 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., there will be presentations of awards for local students participating in Civil War education projects and a reenactor portraying Major James Ewell "J.E.B." Brown will host a singing at the log cabin.

* The event wraps up Saturday night with a Civil War-era dance under the stars with authentic period music from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

* On Sunday, the event starts off at 10 a.m. with a Civil War-era church service open to the public.

* From11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m., the public is invited to visit reenactors at their camp sites and learn about military life in the 1860s.

* At 1 p.m., the reenactment battle begins, followed by Civil War era doctor demonstrations.

* The Sunday events will wrap up with a dinner for reenactors at 3 p.m.

PRIDE buses will provide transportation to guests throughout the park on Saturday and Sunday. People are invited to visit the reenactor camps both days (except during the battlefield reenactments). The reenactment will also feature authentic sutlers, handmade quilts, a blacksmith as well as free pony and buggy rides.
