Police make unusual arrests

Area police made a couple of unusual arrests recently according to law enforcement reports.

Gary Adkins, 50, residence not listed, was arrested by Tpr. Harris of the West Virginia State Police for failure to register as a sex offender on Sept. 22.

According to police reports, the accused conducted his annual sex offender registry through the WVSP Logan Detachment identifying his physical address as the third residence on the right on Claudim Hill Road.

"On Aug. 29, 2008 this officer spoke with family members of the accused who stated Adkins had not been seen at the residence in over a month," the report states. "The accused failed to report any address changes as mandated by the Sex Offender Registry.

A warrant was issued for his arrest and he was taken into custody and booked at the regional jail at 5:25 p.m.

Craig Olen Copley, 58, of Logan, was arrested by Patrolman Mark Dickerson of the Logan Police Department for assault -harassing phone calls on Sept. 19.

According to police reports, on Sept. 4, the officers received a complaint from the victim about harassing telephone calls at work. On Sept. 7 the officer received another complaint in reference to an alleged incident where Copley confronted her and her husband and children at Wendy's. On Sept. 18, the officer received another complaint from the victim in reference to "numerous telephone calls from Copley" who had been placed on a trespassing notice from Chase Bank. Copley allegedly left threatening messages on the victim's voice mail on Sept. 18.

"This officer did hear message and Copley stated in the message that he had a chain that he wanted to put around her neck," the report states, adding the victim said Copley made the statement four times that date. The victim "stated that Copley has sent her correspondences through the US Postal Service in the form of letters and gifts' and that "she is in fear of her life/safety along with her family."

He was booked at the regional jail at 7:57 p.m.
