Chapmanville falls to No. 3 in latest ratings

Despite winning last week over Class A Man, the Chapmanville Regional High School football team dropped from No. 2 to No. 3 in this week's Double-A WVSSAC Computer Ratings.

Chapmanville (7-0) has an 11.57 rating this week, just behind No. 2 Grafton (6-0) which has 11.83 points. Keyser (6-0), which lost to Chapmanville in the first round of last year's playoffs, is No. 1 with 12.33 points.

Wayne (5-1) is fourth, Ravenswood (5-1) is fifth, Wyoming East (5-1) is sixth, Webster County (6-1) seventh, Weir (5-2) eighth, Scott (4-2) ninth and Point Pleasant (5-2) and Shady Spring (5-2) are tied for 10th. Philip Barbour (5-2) is 12th, James Monroe (4-2) 13th, Tolsia (4-2) 14th, Magnolia (4-3) 15th and Greenbrier West (4-2) 16th.

Wayne plays at Tolsia this Friday night in the battle of ranked Wayne County teams.

Chapmanville plays at winless Tug Valley (0-6). The Tigers close out the season against ranked teams Wayne and Point Pleasant after taking on the Panthers Friday night at Naugatuck.

If the season ended today, Chapmanville would host Tolsia in the first round of the playoffs.

The top 16 teams in each class qualify for the playoffs which begin Nov. 14 across the state of West Virginia.

In Class A, Man (3-3) dropped from 12th to 14th in this week's ratings. The Hillbillies lost lost 21-3 last week at Chapmanville. It was the third week in a row Man had played an undefeated team.

Wheeling Central (6-1) is ranked No. 1 this week in Class A. Pocahontas County (7-0) is second, Matewan (6-0) third, Williamstown (5-1) fourth, Mount Hope (6-0) fifth, Madonna (6-0) sixth, Wahama (6-0) seventh, St. Marys (6-1) eighth, Fayetteville (6-1) ninth and Big Creek (5-1) 10th. Tucker County (4-2) is 11th, Calhoun County (4-2) 12th, Parkersburg Catholic (4-2) 13th, Man (3-3) 14th, Iaeger (4-3) 15th and Clay-Battelle (5-2) 16th.

If the season ended today, Man would travel to Matewan in the first round of the Class A playoffs. Man and Matewan do not play each other during the regular season and did not face off with one another last fall.

In the Class AAA ratings, Logan (2-4), which has lost four games in a row, fell to 29th this week.

South Charleston (7-0) is first, while Hurricane (6-0) is second, University (7-0) third, Wheeling Park (5-1) fourth, George Washington (6-1) fifth, Capital (6-1) sixth, Morgantown (6-1) seventh, Bridgeport (5-1) eighth, Cabell Midland (5-2) ninth and Nicholas County (6-1) 10th. Parkersburg South (5-2) is 11th, while Fairmont Senior (4-2) and Martinsburg (4-2) are tied for 12th. Musselman (5-2) is 14th, Spring Valley (4-2) 15th and Beckley Woodrow Wilson (3-3) is 16th.
